He'd woken up before Sookie again, and after some consideration and a quick look at the number of messages on his phone, he'd pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek, drawn the sheet up over her shoulder, and slipped silently out of bed.

Sam dresses as quickly and quietly as he can, then takes his phone and eases his way out into the hall. Adele Stackhouse isn't anywhere in sight, which is probably good, all things considered. He opens the door to the guest room to make it look like he'd just come out and goes down the stairs, phone in hand.

Might as well go outside before he calls Bobby. He's got a feeling there might be yelling before all's said and done.

He'd meant more to hint at Dean's reaction to all this, but finds he doesn't want to go down that path - not now, not tonight.

And especially once she says that. Sam covers her hand with his and squeezes her fingers. "What you are is special. I mean that."

Her smile flickers, there and gone again. "I should just be happy nobody's likely to come hunt me."

Sure, she can hear thoughts, but it's not like she can hurt anybody, or wants to.

"No," he says, firmly. "They won't."

Except for the damned serial killer, and whoever that is won't get another chance.

Sam leans in and gives her a gentle kiss. "It's still early," he observes. "Do you want to curl up on the couch with me? Or stay right here?"

"Do you mind stayin' here for a little bit?"

She doesn't want to get dressed yet, to leave this warm, sweet bubble they've made for themselves. "We can wander down when we get hungry."

"Mind?" He gathers her in his arms and kisses her. "No way. We can stay here as long as you want."

Thoughtfully, he adds, "Although I should probably pick up our clothes before Dean comes back."

She laughs for what feels like the first time in forever. "Probably," she agrees. "Otherwise he'll tease you about it forever."

"He does that anyway. About all kinds of stuff." Which reminds him of what she'd said earlier, down in the kitchen.

"I'm not asking what you overheard him thinking, or anything. I just - it's not meant to be mean, when he teases me like that." Absolute certainty is in every line of him.

She gives him a dubious look. "Maybe not, but it's not very nice, either. You can't help how tall you are."

Lafayette and Tara tease each other all the time, and she and Jason do, too, but... "Teasing someone about somethin' they can't control feels pretty mean to me."

"He doesn't mean it like that," Sam promises. "You'll hear him call me other nicknames and stuff too. He always has. So do I."

He grins. "He's just jealous that I outgrew him."

She giggles a little at that and leans up to kiss him, light and sweet. "You sure did. And, by the way?"

Sookie kisses him once more for good measure. "I can promise you even if he had been here that night, I still just would've been lookin' at you."

He can feel the back of his neck heat as he flushes, and his sudden small smile is more than a little shy.

"Really?"

"Cross my heart," she promises. His smile makes her melt just like it did that very first night. It's irresistible.

"Oh." His smile grows even more bashful, and he hides it by leaning in to give her a slow, gentle kiss.

She kisses him back, sweet and light.

"I think you're special, too, honey."

"I think that makes me pretty lucky." Sam snuggles her against him.

She curls willingly into his arms and pillows her head on his shoulder. "If you want, you could stay with me tonight," she murmurs. "Let Dean have the guest room all to himself."

"You sure you don't mind?" He presses a gentle kiss to her hair.

"Not even a little," she whispers, closing her eyes at his kiss. "I missed you bein' here with me."

"Then I'll stay." He'll have to get a few things from the guest room, but that's no hardship. Sam kisses her again and holds her close.

"Okay."

She cuddles close and sighs, content. "People really are gonna talk now, you know," she murmurs. "You bein' here without Gran around."

"Probably, yeah," he murmurs, as guilt surges. "Do you want - is that going to cause you any trouble? Any more trouble," he corrects himself.

"I don't care."

She lifts her head to meet his eyes. "I want you here. And I am not gonna put Dean out on the side of the road. The biddies can get in a tizzy about it all they like."

He searches her face carefully, trying to make sure that she's not just taking more trouble on herself because she doesn't want to leave them in an awkward place, and decides that she means it.

Sam leans in and kisses her again, a lot more thoroughly.

She makes a small, pleased sound at his kiss and runs her fingers up into his hair as she kisses him back. "As long as you'd rather stay here," she teases.

"I hear the motel is almost comfortable."
